& Benefits (Education,
kiosks and much more)
Applica Multimedia combines the benefits of a 2nd PC and a network to
give you access to the Web and desktop. Applica Multimedia is the only
home networking solution capable of delivering true multimedia
applications, entertainment and content from the Internet and PC to two
or more people using just one PC and a second monitor, mouse and
keyboard (speakers optional). One package enables two people to share a
single Internet connection, and to enjoy Web, DVD or PC based
entertainment, education and email on a second monitor or TV. *
Applica U2 makes it possible to add a second browsing station to an
existing PC running Windows 95/98. With U2, two people can share an
existing Internet connection to surf simultaneously, and share
peripherals, applications and files. Applica U2 consists of a Plug &
Play card and connector box (for a single monitor, mouse and keyboard)
combined with Applica software. *
With Applica Workgroup, you can add up to four browsing stations that
can all share a single Internet connection to surf simultaneously and
share peripherals, applications and files. Workgroup supports extended
distances and peripherals. *
Applica 2000 allows Windows 2000 Server and Professional to support
high performance, low cost workstations, using standard monitors, mice
and keyboards. Each station provides a full NT desktop with PC-like
performance. Applica's zero client technology delivers display data to
each user at bus speed, eliminating the overhead of RDP or ICA protocol.
*
Also Available - Applica support for Windows NT Terminal
Server Edition
The Applica zero client technology provides bus-speed delivery
of data and display information to multiple users, and uses standard,
off-the-shelf components - just a monitor, mouse, keyboard, and optional
speakers - for each user's station. It offers a high performance, fully
functional Windows desktop that is the equivalent of a 2nd PC. Plus,
Applica is so flexible that televisions can be used in the place of
monitors, for Web surfing, gaming, and viewing CD and DVD entertainment.
Applica is an ideal OEM platform because the technology can be used
and extended to provide unique benefits for products targeted at
consumer and business markets. Click here for more information on

Applica is ideal for schools, libraries and businesses to
provide Internet access to groups while keeping down the startup and
communications costs. Applica was designed from the beginning to
allow two, three or four people to share one modem (analog or ISDN) and
one phone line for simultaneous access to the Internet. While other
modem-sharing solutions allow one person at a time to use a shared
modem, Applica allows all four to connect and retrieve
information at the same time. This means lower initial costs (fewer
modems and fewer phone line setups) and lower monthly phone bills.
For N.Z. users programs like Musac and work well with Applica
Whether you are planning for or already have single kiosk stations, Applica
allows you to add other stations (or heads) at a very marginal cost. It
also allows a singe kiosk to support multiple monitors within the same
enclosure without requiring an additional PC for each monitor. This
saves on hardware costs and can dramatically reduce required floor
space. The primary reason to consider multi-station kiosks is that this
solution delivers the message, product or service to more customers in
less time, for less money.
Factory floor environments are very tough on computers. In
particular, heat and dust contribute significantly to the rapid
degradation of CPUs, memory, hard disks and other storage. In many
environments, PCs may have to be replaced in as little as three months.
With Applica, multi-user stations do not contain a CPU, memory or
storage space. All of that is contained within the host or server
computer. Since monitors generally last much longer, replacement costs
over time are significantly reduced. Our multiuser DOS solution has been
used successfully in these environments for 10 years. Now Factory Floor
managers can use the graphical user interface of Windows 95/98 - and all
the off - the - shelf solutions for it - with the same advantages.
Point of Sale applications are migrating rapidly from DOS and
proprietary operating systems to Windows. The reasons are simple:
thousands of applications for point of sale are available under Windows,
and these applications are generally inexpensive because their
developers have been able to spread costs across many more users than
for proprietary platforms. As a bonus, the time to learn new
applications under Windows is substantially lower. All of these
advantages are obtained without the cost of installing a new network.
Applica turns a stand alone PC into a multiuser POS
powerhouse. It does this by providing the same functionality on
workstations or graphics terminals that you get with individual PCs. In
addition to handling the sales receipt function, your POS system can now
do multiple functions: keep track of inventory, access customer records
and profiles, provide product locations and descriptions to your
customer via touch screen kiosks, and even provide vendor and partner
information via the Internet. And those stations can take advantage of
shared peripherals such as printers, modems, and CD-ROMS.
Many turnkey systems and vertical market applications share a single
database. Applica provides a major speed advantage over those
systems that use individual PCs connected via a traditional Novell or
peer-to-peer network. In an individual PC environment, every time a
request is made for data, it is sent to and from the server at Ethernet
speeds. Because Applica uses a single PC, all processing is done
on that PC at bus speeds and multiuser screens are refreshing with video
technology. This means Applica can be up to 10 times faster than
traditional LAN systems. In addition one does not need to involve a
systems administrator to install, configure, and maintain a LAN
Client/Server environment.
The single PC hosting Applica allows all users to access the
wide area link for remote tasks as well as operating independently from
the remote server for local computing tasks. Applica is most
important as a backup and a bandwidth saver to NT solutions by allowing
users to toggle between local and remote computing applications.
Because it supports all the popular applications for Windows 95/98,
including desktop suites such as Microsoft Office, Applica is
ideal for small office environments as well as departments within larger
companies as a replacement for individual PCs on a network or new NC
client/server networks. The cost to set up an Applica multi-user
system is much less; just as important, however, are the long-term
savings achieved by the significant reduction in upgrade costs.
